Waste to Energy Generation (WtE) facility project made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has been featured in Asian Infrastructure Investment and Development Bank (AIIB) 2021 Annual Report . WtE plant project has been developed since 2010 and it is the first plant in Türkiye, biggest in Europe. The facility located 20 km North of İstanbul, in Eyüp district. The project was financed by Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, BNP Paribas, Societe Generale with the Swiss Export Risk Versicherung (SERV) covered initially. In 2021, AIIB approved EUR 100 M with 10 years tenor and project has been fully financed. The Istanbul Waste-to-Energy Generation Project is AIIB’s first de-risked WtE project, providing valuable commissioning and early operational insights. This project is forged better ties between AIIB and IMM thanks to the both sides teams and opened the door for the future collaborations.
